American Photoarchive was created by a veteran photojournalist to bring you affordable historic and modern imagery from the United States Library of Congress, The National Archives and other American image libraries.
Historic & Modern Images
American Photoarchive offers historic imagery such as Matthew Brady and his associates’ coverage of the US Civil War to astronaut Buzz Aldrin’s images of Neil Armstrong’s first moonwalk and legendary images from Roy Stryker’s Farm Security Administration files featuring works by Dorthea Lange, Walker Evans, Gordon Parks and others.

With continually expanding offerings, American Photoarchive produces our photographs on the finest of traditional photographic papers in our professional photo lab. All of our photographs are processed to archival standards and all of our offerings are retouched for imperfections such as dust present on the original files.

Our search engine is a fast and powerful way to locate any photograph or illustration in our archive. By entering a search word or phrase in the text box above, you can access find specific images. Enter the word “president” and you’ll receive references to all images in our U.S. President’s Gallery. Refine your search by entering “President Lincoln” and you’ll narrow your search to find Lincoln’s portraits, Civil War battlefield visits and assassination conspirators.
